Not a good start to this Trip. When we decided to book, we had to pay £90 each for a direct flight, no mention of this when we first enquired about this holiday. Most of the group flew to Abu Dabi, all said it was a good flight and had upgrades but we didnt  fancy the extra 5 hrs.
We flew with Sri lankan Airways 10 1/2 hrs flight, a reasonable service, and things went smoothly at the airport in Sri Lanka. From there we drove to the Tamarind Tree , just under an hours journey.  Hotel was in a lovely setting, and food was ok. We arrived around 4 pm. Most people chilled by the pool after the long journey or you could do what we did and go for a walk to see villlage life!.
In the Morning we travelled to the Elephant orphanage on route to Chaaya Habarana Village, it was nice to see all the Elephants in the river bathing, but disappointing to hear that the baby Elephants were not released back into the wild, and were sold on for the tourist trade and festivals

TIPS
1. Do not exchange your money in the uk, you get a better rate in Sri lanka.
2.  If you are thinking of going on trips there are three  main groups of people in Berwala offering excursions; the Tut Tut boys, Beach Boys, and people in the hotel .Make sure you barter with them all before booking ,you will be surprised with the differences in prices. kuoni will obviously not recommend  that you use them, however we used them for all of our excursions and enjoyed them all.
The free trip to kandy goes in the day, not a good time to go, if you want too see the budhas tooth or the dancers you need to go in the evening, also they have a big festival when there is a full moon.

This was a trip with Ronnie one of the beach boys in Beruwela
we held the baby turtles and then helped them into the sea when the sun set, a great day out, not  all the trips to the turtle farms let you do this..

A GREAT DAY OUT WITH RONNIE IN BERUWELA

BABY TURTLES READY TOO BE RELEASED

Recommended  Trips
1. The Turtle Hatchery in Beruwela
2. The boat trip into the Mangroves watch out for the crocs :-)
3. We also Travelled to Yala National park, a very long journey 8hrs ( you would need to stay overnight in a local hotel).
We didnt actually see a lot , Sea Eagles Painted storks, crocodiles, Bee Eaters, Mongoose, Kingfishers, but we did get to see a leopard at the last minute, so well worth the trip !.

WELL I AM NOT BRUSHING YOUR TEETH FOR YOU

Are you sure it is not real Ronnie, i know what you beach boys are like!!,  I am sure it just winked at me.

"I will take it if you have a Handbag to match, how about 500 Rupees for the pair. come on Ronnie the Tuk Tuk boys are selling them for 450."

After a fantastic week at Chaaya Village Habarana, it was time to make the trip to Tropical Villas ,we left at 8.30 in the morning it turned out to be a long drive, we stopped on route a few times and had lunch in a medium class restaurant (food not so good, minimal choice ), we finally arrived at Tropical villas at 6.00pm (9 1/2 hrs). Fortunately the rep did not get his own  way by taking us to yet  another factory selling goods, for his commission.
Half of our group were not happy with the Tropical Villas and upgraded to another  Hotel, the next morning. We decided to stay as we had  already planned to do some trips from there.
